Essentially what happened, is that the stock end-cap lost it's mounting bolts around 1000 kms after installation. Because it held one bolt in place, the cap flipped over, and torched my fender and bent the casing. Also, the packing was already blowing apart, making it very loud. It was on the bike for less than 2000 kms, and had never been crashed.
Good call on the loctite; I wish I had done that. Even longer bolts with locknuts would be great. It's too bad; that brand had come highly recommended by everyone, but to be fair, I should have kept a closer eye on it. I just never had anything like that happen before

ReplyDeleteI just bought one on Kijiji last week, dammit! Perhaps I'll red loctite the bolts on the end cap.
